Searching for Information with Finds

Virtual Ticket Developer includes extensive capabilities to help you find and retrieve information stored in the Virtual Ticket Developer system. These capabilities are provided in powerful searches called “Finds”. Finds are created within the Virtual Ticket Developer application by the Administrator and regular users. Depending on whether or not you are logged in as the Administrator, the types of Finds you can create is restricted.

Administrators can create two types of Finds: Global and Local. By contrast, Users can create only Local Finds. Local Finds can be saved and are available only to the user that has created them. Conversely, Global Finds can only be created by the Administrator, but can be made available to all users or a selection of users defined in the system.

This section of the guide is focused on using Local and Global Finds and creating new Local Finds. For information on creating Global Finds, please refer to the “Setting Up Global Finds” section of the “Virtual Ticket IT Administration Guide”.

Saved Local and Global Finds are available to users in three ways: Find Menus, Hotkey Combinations, and via the Context Menu. Finds available in the Context Menu are referred to as Context Finds, as their searches are contextual. Typically the context of these Finds is based on the location of the object selected when the Context Find was opened.

Remember: Though all accessible Context Finds will also appear in the Find menu, only Context Finds will appear in the Context Menu.

In addition to Local and Global Finds, Virtual Ticket Developer supports creating and using custom-tailored SQL queries (Custom Queries) to be run against the data stored in the Virtual Ticket Developer database. Custom Queries are created in the Virtual Ticket Developer application by the Administrator and integrated into the rest of the system as menu items. In the Virtual Ticket Developer application, Custom Queries can be accessed and activated based on your access privileges.
