Estimating - Creating Quote Items
Quote items are detailed line item products and services that will be submitted to the client for approval. Quote items may be pre-defined tasks, materials, or ordered items, free-form line items that account for outside services, or custom items specific to the individual estimate. Quote items may also be direct copies of estimate items that have been applied to the estimate.
Copying an estimate item to a quote item
- Open an Estimate and display it in Edit mode if it is not already.
- Scroll down to the Estimate Items section of the page.
- Select the estimate item you want to copy to the list of quote items and click Copy Selected Items to Quote (
). This action will prompt Job Manager to automatically insert the selected estimate item into the Quote Items grid, including the description, quantity, unit, unit price, and total price information.
- Repeat Step 3 for each estimate item you want to convert to a quote item.
Adding pre-defined quote items
- Open an Estimate and display it in Edit mode if it is not already.
- Scroll down to the Quote Items section of the page.
- Select the first blank line. If there are no blank lines displayed in the Quote Items grid, click More Items (
). Additional blank rows will be added to the Quote Items grid.
- Double-click and type the first few characters of the code and press Tab or use the Quote Item Selector Tool (
) to select a pre-defined quote from the selectable list of all Quote Items.
- Type the quantity for the selected task, material or ordered item in the Qty cell and press Tab. This will indicate the quantity of the product or service and will allow Job Manager to automatically calculate the total price for the quote item.
- Click outside the line item to complete adding the quote item to the estimate.
- Repeat steps 3-5 for each additional pre-defined quote item you want to add to the estimate.
- Optional: Click the Up (
) and Down (
) arrows as needed to arrange the quote items in the order that best suits your needs.
Creating free-form quote items
- Open an Estimate and display it in Edit mode if it is not already.
- Scroll down to the Quote Items section of the page.
- Select the first blank line. If there are no blank lines displayed in the Quote Items grid, click More Items (
). Additional blank rows will be added to the Quote Items grid.
- Double-click and type a description for the quote item in the Description cell and press Tab.
- Type the quantity of the free-form line item in the Qty cell and press Tab. This will indicate the quantity of the product or service that will be needed to complete the project being estimated.
- Type the unit and unit price of the free-form line item in the appropriate cells, pressing Tab after each cell. This will indicate the unit measurement and unit price for the line item. Job Manager will automatically calculate the total price of the quote item.
- Click outside the line item to complete adding the quote item to the estimate.
- Repeat steps 2-7 for each additional free-form quote item you want to add to the estimate.
- Optional: Click the Up (
) and Down (
) arrows as needed to arrange the quote items in the order that best suits your needs.
At this point, at least one quote item has been added to the estimate and you may review how this has affected the quoted markup percentage (i.e. profitability) and quoted price of the estimate.
