Creating An Estimate

Creating An Estimate

New estimates can be created through Job Manager's New Estimates page. This page allows you to enter a variety of estimate information, including a line item listing of "estimate items" - services and materials that you expect to provide/use in completing the project and their costs - and "quoted items" - line items and their final price that will be submitted to the client for approval.

Creating a new estimate

  1. Select the Estimates tab and click New Estimate. This will open the New Estimate page.
  2. Type the estimate number and name in the appropriate fields.

Note: If auto-numbering has been enabled, the text "<auto>" will appear in the estimate number field. Job Manager will assign the next available estimate number when the new estimate is Added to the database. If the "Allow Overrides" setting for auto-numbering is enabled, the user may replace the text "<auto>" with a specific estimate number.

  1. Select the appropriate Customer with the Customer Selection Tool ( ). This will assign the Customer to the estimate that you are creating. When a Customer is selected, many of the estimate fields will be automatically set based on the information saved for that Customer. Each of these can be changed for an individual estimate.

  1. Create the estimate items that encompass the materials and services that you believe will be needed to complete the project being estimated. For details on creating estimate items, please refer to the "Estimating: Creating Estimate Items" section below.

  1. Create the quote items that encompass the line item details you want to submit to the client for approval of the estimate. For details on creating quote items, please refer to the "Estimating: Creating Quote Items" section below.

  1. Type the rest of the estimate information needed in the appropriate fields. Additional information could include an estimate description, sales rep, Customer service rep, and/or an estimate note.
  2. Click Add ( ). This will save the new estimate to the database and make it available for use throughout the rest of the Job Manager system.

At this point, an estimate has been created within the database. The estimate's information can be reviewed, edited, printed, or deleted as needed.

NOTE: An estimate can be deleted by using the Delete button when viewing an Estimate's details. However, an Estimate can only be deleted if it has not been converted to a live Job. Once the estimate has been converted to a Job, it cannot be deleted unless the Job has been deleted.
