Managing the InterSync Services on A Network Computer
By default, the File System Service and the MetaData Service snap-ins of the MetaCommunications Management Console are set up to manage the local computer on which the InterSync services are installed. However, these snap-ins may be configured to manage the InterSync services installed on any other Windows computer on your network. To do so, you must simply instruct the appropriate snap-in to connect to the computer on which the InterSync service you would like to manage is installed.
IMPORTANT! In order to be able to connect the FSS or MDS snap-in to another computer, you must be logged into Windows Server as the Administrator or a user who has administrative privileges on the local Windows domain.
To connect the File System Service or MetaData Service snap-in to another computer:
- Expand “MetaCommunications Services” in the tree portion of the MetaCommunications console, right-click the <Server_Name>.<Service_Name> entry (where <Service_Name> is either “File System Service” or “MetaData Service”), and select Connect from the popup menu. This will bring up the Connect To Computer dialog window, allowing you to specify the computer on which you would like to manage the InterSync service represented by the snap-in.
- Click the Another computer radio button and type the name of the computer you would like the File System Service to manage. You may also click
to browse for the computer.
- Click OK. This will change the computer the service is configured to manage to the one you specified and close the Connect To Computer window. The name of the service sub-tree of MetaCommunications Services will be displayed as “<New_Computer>.<Service_Name>” in the MetaCommunications console.
After you have specified the computer to manage, the snap-in you are currently configuring will automatically retrieve the list of databases from the computer’s registry as well as the service configuration information preserved in the databases.
If the service managed by the snap-in is not installed on the designated computer, you will not be able to view/edit the service configuration settings (the “not available” suffix will be appended to the snap-in’s name).
