Setting Up File Types

Setting Up File Types

The Digital Storage Manager system is equipped to manage a large number of the types of digital resource files in use today. These file types include everything from graphics files (EPS, TIFF, PICT, CT, BMP, etc.) to page layout files (QuarkXPress, PageMaker, etc.) to business-related files (text documents, spreadsheets, slide presentations, etc.).

Digital Storage Manager is also flexible enough to allow you to create additional file types beyond those pre-defined in the system. In addition, every file type, both user-defined and pre-defined, can be configured to instruct Digital Storage Manager in the way in which both thumbnails and extended previews should be generated for digital resource files of that type. In addition to thumbnails and extended previews, the File Type window allows you to set XMP metadata extraction options for predefined file types. If you currently do or expect to use Microsoft PowerPoint files, you can set Digital Storage Manager to also extract embedded notes from PowerPoint Files.

You must be logged in to the Digital Storage Manager client as the Administrator to access the File Type window for setting up and configuring your file type settings.
