Understanding User Roles

Digital Storage Manager (DSM) restricts access privileges according three pre-defined user roles. Users without certain privileges will not have access to the related portions of DSM.

The basic user roles for DSM are as follows:

Administrator

Full access to all DSM windows and menus. The administrator is responsible for assigning access privileges for other users and user groups and for creating/editing forms and Global Finds.

There can only be one Administrator account. Administrators may not assign administrator privileges to other users.

Archivist

The Archivist is responsible for archiving files and folders and retrieving them for general users. The Archivist role is intended to support organizations that have centralized the role of Archivist in their production workflow. In a non-centralized archivist environment, standard users can be allowed to perform the archive and retrieve tasks.

User

Users are individuals who use DSM to manage their resource lifecycle. Depending on the needs of the installation site, users may or may not be permitted to perform archive and retrieve tasks.

Custom

Other categories of users with unique privileges may be defined in the system by the Administrator.
