Basic Workflows

DSM is designed to support and structure the workflows used at your company. Standard functionality includes support for any mix of centralized and distributed workflows for archiving and retrieving to and from online and offline storage.

Distributed Archiving Workflow

In a distributed archiving workflow, users are responsible for archiving their own files. This simple process provides an easy and reliable way individual users to manage their own archiving tasks.

Distributed Archiving Workflow

Centralized Archiving Workflow

In a centralized archiving workflow, users do not have the ability to archive folders and files themselves. Instead, users assign dates to folders and files that determine when the folders and files can be archived. When the archive date is exceeded, the files and folders appear in the Archiving Queue window, allowing the Archivist to easily and efficiently perform archiving tasks for the entire workgroup.

Distributed Retrieval Workflow

In a distributed retrieval workflow, DSM provides users with specific location information for the offline or unavailable files that they need. This allows the users to quickly locate the media and easily retrieve the files themselves.

Centralized Retrieval Workflow

In a centralized Retrieval Workflow, users do not have the ability to retrieve offline and unavailable folders and files themselves. When users try to open or manage such files, DSM automatically generates a Retrieval Request and routes it to the Archivist responsible for retrieving files. This allows unavailable files to quickly be returned to the production environment.
