Installing the Portal Integration Tool
For the Portal Integration Tool to provide seamless access to MetaCommunications desktop clients, the Portal Integration Tool must first be installed. Installation consists of Downloading the Portal Integration Tool Installer and installing it in your operating system.
You will have the option to download the Portal Integration Tool each time you attempt to access an area that requires a desktop client. If you have turned off the Portal Integration Tool Warning Message, you will not have the opportunity to download the Portal Integration Tool unless:
A newer version of the Portal Integration Tool is available on the server
You have not yet installed the Portal Integration Tool
Installing the Portal Integration Tool on Mac OS X
This procedure assumes that you have accessed an area that requires a desktop client and the Portal Integration Tool Warning Message has appeared (see capture below).
Note: Because of differences in operating systems, security settings, and supported browsers (Safari and Mozilla Firefox), step by step instructions are not provided for downloading the Portal Integration Tool Installer.
- Download the Portal Integration Tool Installer file using the method you are familiar with for your browser and operating system.
- Open the Portal Integration Tool Installer you downloaded in the previous step. The Portal Integration Tool Installation Wizard will open to the Welcome window.
- Read the MetaCommunications End User License Agreement.
- Click Continue. A Confirmation Sheet will appear.
- If you agree to the terms and conditions set forth in the MetaCommunications EULA, click Agree to continue. The Select Destination page will appear (see capture below). If you do not agree with the terms of the MetaCommunications EULA, click Disagree. If you click Disagree, you will be returned to the MetaCommunications EULA and will not be allowed to continue installation unless you agree with the EULA.
- Click Upgrade. The Portal Integration Tool will be installed. When finished installing, a success message will appear.
At this point, you have downloaded and installed the Portal Integration Tool on your Mac OS X computer.
The Portal Installation Tool application bundle is installed to the following folder:
\<volume>\Applications\MetaCommunications
A corresponding Preferences folder is created in:
\<user>\Library\Preferences\MetaCommunications\Portal Integration Tool.
The Portal Integration Tool will now provide access to desktop client applications as you need them. For more information on opening desktop client applications from Workgroups Portal, please refer to the Launching Desktop Clients from Workgroups Portal section of this guide.
Installing the Portal Integration Tool on Windows
This procedure assumes that you have accessed an area that requires a desktop client and the Portal Integration Tool Warning Message has appeared (see capture below).
Note: Because of differences in operating systems, security settings, and supported browsers (Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox), step by step instructions are not provided for downloading the Portal Integration Tool Installer.
- Download the Portal Integration Tool Installer file using the method you are familiar with for your browser and operating system.
- Open the Portal Integration Tool Installer you downloaded in the previous step. The file name of the Portal Integration Tool Installer is "Install Integration <version>.exe" (eg: "Install Integration 1.0.0.14.exe").The Portal Integration Tool Installation Wizard will open to the Welcome window.
- Select the default location and click Install or browse to an alternate location in which you would like to install the Portal Integration Tool and click Install. The Portal Integration Tool will be installed in the selected location.
At this point, you have downloaded and installed the Portal Integration Tool on your Windows computer. The default installation location for the Portal Installation Tool is:
C:\Program Files\MetaCommunications\Portal Integration Tool\
A corresponding preferences folder will be created for each user that opens a desktop client from the Workgroups Portal. This folder will be located in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\MetaCommunications\Portal Integration Tool\
The Portal Integration Tool will now provide access to desktop client applications as you need them. For more information on opening desktop client applications from Workgroups Portal, please refer to the Launching Desktop Clients from Workgroups Portal section of this guide.
