Managing the Application Server

Managing the Application Server

The Application Server plays a vital role in providing access to information stored on the system database (served by Microsoft SQL Server). The Application Server handles all licensing for the system, and performs many of the functions for storing information in and retrieving information from the database.

The first section gives an overview of the Application Server and its role within the DSM system. It also introduces the concepts of ports, database links, and database sources and explains how they are used by the Application Server.

The consequent sections outline such configuration and management aspects as starting and stopping the Application Server, managing database links, configuring ports and licenses.

To manage the Application Server, use the Application Server Shell available in the Programs:MetaCommunications folder of the Start menu.
