About Find Modes

When Global Find search criteria are being defined in the Global Find Editor, they may be saved in one of three modes: Design, Normal, or Runtime. The mode you choose to use for each Find will depend on the amount of information and interaction you want to provide to the end user of Virtual Ticket when the Find is executed.

Design Mode - This mode is generally used during the setup and administration of the Find and allows you to specify (with a check box) which field search criteria will be visible when the Find is saved and consequently opened in Runtime mode. Search criteria that remain unchecked (i.e. visible) will be editable when the Find is used. Search criteria that are checked will be invisible in Runtime mode but will be included in the overall search when the Find is executed. The following capture shows the visibility selection in Design mode and the resulting display in Runtime mode.

Normal Mode - This mode is used by default and allows the user to view each field search criterion defined for the Global Find. The user will be able to edit all search criteria when the Global Find is used in Virtual Ticket.

Runtime Mode - This mode is often used for Global Finds and displays only the search criteria that were left unchecked when the Find was formatted in Design mode. Each search criterion that remains unchecked (i.e. visible to a user) may be edited by the user when the Global Find is used in Virtual Ticket. If all field search criteria have been checked (i.e. made invisible to the user), Virtual Ticket will automatically retrieve the information from the database when the Find is accessed by the user.

Find Modes are selected in the Global Find Editor through the Find Mode button ( ).
