Introducing the Database Monitoring and Maintenance Snap-in

For each database attached to the Database Monitoring and Maintenance Snap-in, the MetaCommunications Management Console allows you to:

Review general database information - including the database version, database family (Virtual Ticket/Job Manager/Job Cost Plus/Digital Storage Manager/Approval Manager, etc...) and the database size (it is particularly important to monitor this value for a MSDE database as its size cannot exceed 2 GB).

Manually backup and restore databases. (Recommended for MS SQL Server 2000 MSDE only.)

Set up an automatic database backup plan. The automated database backup plan consists of full database and transaction log backups performed at regular intervals and the procedure of updating statistics for query optimization. (Recommended for MS SQL Server 2000 MSDE only.)

Manage SQL Server Agent jobs. A SQL Server Agent job is a collection of SQL statements that is executed by a SQL Server Agent according to an assigned schedule.

Using the DMAM Snap-in, you can also change Microsoft SQL Server user passwords and configure Microsoft SQL Server memory usage. For additional information on using the Database Monitoring and Maintenance Snap-in, refer to “The Database Monitoring and Maintenance Snap-in” on page 77.
