Installing InterSync on Additional Computers

Installing InterSync on Additional Computers

For Digital Storage Manager Systems and Virtual Tickets Systems that use the DSM Extension, InterSync can be installed on remote File Servers. The following procedure describes how to Install InterSync and configure it for use with your system.

Installing InterSync on additional computers:

1. Open the ServerInstaller.exe file on the Windows 2003 Server computer on which you wish to install an instance of InterSync. This will launch the Server Installation application and open the Welcome window.

2. Read the End User License Agreement (EULA).

3. Click the “I accept the License Agreement” radio button if you accept the EULA or click the “I do not accept the License Agreement” radio button if you do not accept the EULA.

4. If you accepted the EULA, click Next to continue. The Select Features window will open.

Note: Server components will not be installed if you do not accept the EULA.

5. Deselect all features except InterSync. Click Next to continue. The Ready to Install window will open.

6. The installation wizard will recommend that you install the Server Configurator and Management Console with this instance of InterSync. It is recommended that you do so for convenience, as these features will allow you to configure the installed instance of InterSync. Click Next to continue. The application will install the InterSync files to the server and open the Finish window when completed.

7. Click Finish. The Welcome window for the Server Configurator window will appear. At this point, InterSync has been installed and should be configured. Please continue with Configuring InterSync with the Server Configurator below.

Configuring InterSync with the Server Configurator:

1. The MetaCommunications Server Configurator Welcome window will appear once installation has completed.

2. Click Next. The Select the Microsoft SQL Server window will open.

3. The Select Microsoft SQL Server window allows you to select a currently installed instance of SQL Server installed on the remote computer. Type the address of the SQL Server you want InterSync to connect to and type the ‘sa’ password in the password field. (Note: You want InterSync to connect to the SQL Server hosting your Digital Storage Manager or combined Virtual Ticket and Digital Storage Manager database.)

4. Click Next. The Configure Microsoft SQL Server window will open.

5. Select the memory configuration options you want the SQL Server to use. If you have already configured the SQL Server Memory Configuration option when installing the Workgroups server components elsewhere, you should leave the SQL Server memory settings unchanged.

6. Click Next until the Manage Databases window appears, displaying a list of MetaCommunications databases installed at the SQL Server location specified in Step 3 above.

7. Click Next. The InterSync Configuration window will appear.

8. Select the database you want to configure InterSync to work with. All MetaCommunications databases hosted on the SQL Server specified in Step 3 will be listed here. For most customers this will be either (or both) the production database and/or a testing database. When a database is selected, the Configure button will become active.

9. Click Configure. The InterSync Configuration: Manage Production Folders window will open. If InterSync has already been installed on other server computers and configured to work with the database selected in Step 8 above, any production shares already monitored by other instances of InterSync will be listed here.

10. Click Add. This will open the Production Folder Properties window.

11. Type the full address of the production folder location.

If you specify a Production Folder by IP Address, you will be asked whether you want to change the IP address to the Host Name when saving. Whether you allow a Production Folder’s location to be displayed as an IP Address or as a Host Name has no affect on system performance, but some users find it easier to recognize and work with locations using the Host Name convention.

12. Select an access protocol and type the port number (if required). If the files hosted in the selected Production Folder are directly accessed by Mac users via AFP, you should choose AFP to ensure consistency of thumbnails and other MetaData.

13. Select an account access method and type the user name and password (if required). If you have multiple folders, you may want to use the same user for all of them. In this case you may setup a default user with access to all folders and use this user for accessing the production folders monitored by InterSync.

14. Select filter and scheduling options in the Filter and Schedule tabs.

15. Click OK. The Production Folder Properties window will close and the folder will be added to the Production Folders list in the Add Production Folders window.

16. Continue adding Production Folders. Click Next when finished. The InterSync Configuration: Manage Archive Folders window will open.

17. Click Add. This will open the Archive Folder Properties window. If you do not need to add Archive Folders, you may skip adding them by clicking Next.

18. Type the full address of the folder location.

If you specify an Archive Folder by IP Address, you will be asked whether you want to change the IP address to the Host Name when saving. Whether you allow an Archive Folder’s location to be displayed as an IP Address or as a Host Name has no affect on system performance, but some users find it easier to recognize and work with locations using the Host Name convention.

19. Select an account access protocol and port number (if required).

20. Select an access method and type the user name and password (if required). If you have multiple folders, you may want to use the same user for all of them. In this case you may setup a default user with access to all folders and use this user for accessing. If the folder is local, select “Use service account”.

21. Use the Filters tab to set scanning exclusion options.

22. Click OK. The Archive Folder Properties window will close and the folder will be added to the Archive Folders list of the Add Archive Folders window.

23. Repeat this procedure until all desired folders have been added.

Note: Archive Folders can be added at any time through the MetaConsole File System Service Snap-In. Please see the MetaConsole Guide for details.

Note: Unlike Production Folders, Archive Folders are scanned only when they are added to the system. Scanning can be re-initiated for Archive Folders at any time through the File System Service snap-in of the MetaCommunications Management Console (MMC).

Note: Classification Roles need to be defined once for an installation. If you did not define Classification Roles as part of the initial Server Component Installation, you will need to do it now.

24. Continue clicking Next until the Completing Configuration Wizard window appears.

25. Click Finish. The Server Configurator will close.
