Saving Appearance Profiles for Finds

Saving Appearance Profiles for Finds

When Finds are created and saved by the Administrator or by individual users, the appearance profile of the Find is saved to the database. This profile consists of window dimensions, whether results are displayed in Documents view, or Digital Resources view, etc... The profile is saved to the database based on how the Find is displayed when it is saved. The first time the Find is opened subsequent to it’s first save, this appearance profile is read from the database, and the Find window is displayed accordingly, thus ensuring that the Find is opened with the same appearance it had when it was originally saved. This allows individual users to manage the display of the Finds they use in the manner that best suits their individual needs.

The one exception to this rule is if, when a Find is saved, the “Always reset find appearance on load” checkbox is selected in the Save dialog window (see below).

When this is selected, the Find will always open with the appearance profile saved in the database. Users are free to modify the appearance when they work with the Find, but these changes will not be saved or used the next time the Find is opened.

Since this option is available for selection only when the Find is saved, setting or removing this option for previously saved Finds can only be accomplished by opening and resaving the Find.

If you want to see a Find according to the default appearance profile originally saved with the Find, click Reset Find Appearance in the Window menu (see below).

This allows users to customize the appearance of Finds, while providing them the ability to revert back to the default appearance if needed.

For users working on multiple computers with the same account, appearance profiles saved on one computer will not be available when logged in on another computer. Since appearance profiles are saved locally, each computer will save the appearance profile for each Find used on that computer only.

Finally, when Finds are saved, you have the option of saving them to a pre-defined category or creating a new category by typing the category name in the Category field. The Find will be saved to <Find menu><Category sub menu><Find name>.
