Importing Data

Importing Data

Job Manager has the ability to import data contained in a tab delimited text file into the database. This is often helpful when initially integrating Job Manager in your environment and you have legacy systems that contain data you want to migrate to Job Manager. Others find it a convenient way to keep Job Manager information up to date with other systems that may be used concurrently in your environment.

The Import Data feature processes data import text files in batch mode of 100 lines/records at a time. If it encounters an error, the processing stops and none of the records in the current batch are imported to the database. Because of this, if your data import text file is three hundred lines long and an error is encountered in Line 250, the first two hundred records will be imported into the database but none of the last one hundred will be.

Note: Import Data is only available in the Job Manager desktop client. The functionality represented below is described in terms of the Job Manager desktop client for Mac OS X. Similar functionality is available in the Job Manager desktop client for Windows.

Note: Before attempting to import data into your Job Manager system, it is highly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the entire contents of this chapter.
