Downloading Files

Downloading Files

The Image Portal Web Client allows you to download selected files to your local hard drive from the Workspace or directly from the Search Results page. Files are made available for downloading by creating an archive package, which is a compressed file that may contain one or more selected files. Each archive package you create is listed on the Download page until you delete it. This makes the archive package accessible for repeated downloads without having to repeatedly search, select and build packages for the same files.

There are two steps to downloading files through the Image Portal Web Client: 1) creating an archive package - a compressed file using either WinZip for PC’s (.ZIP) or Stuffit for Macintosh (.SIT) - and then 2) downloading the compressed file to your computer.

Creating an archive package for download

1. From the Search Results page or the Workspace, select the checkbox below the file(s) you wish to download. To select all files on the page, click SELECT ALL on the left side of the page. A checkmark appears in the box below each selected file.

2. Click DOWNLOAD on the left side of the browser window. A popup window appears, allowing you to format and name the archive package.
3. Specify the type of compressed file you wish to create (Zip for PC’s or SIT for Macintosh) and type a name for the compressed file.

Recommendation: Use SIT files if you work on a Macintosh computer. SIT archives preserve resource for information used in Apple Macintosh operating systems.

4. Click DOWNLOAD. This will instruct Image Portal Web Server to begin compressing the selected files. A Download Status page will appear to indicate the progress of the download. By default, the page is updated every 30 seconds, but this refresh time can be modified.

5. When the status reads “Done”, the archiving is complete.

NOTE: After the files have been compressed and the archive package made, the files are immediately available for downloading from the Download page.

6. Click the file name hyperlink to download the file immediately, OR close the window and continue to the next step to download the archive file at your convenience.
7. Close the Confirmation window and click the DOWNLOAD tab. A list of archive packages that have been created on your user account will be displayed.

8. Select the archive package that you wish to download to begin the download process.
