Moving Files and Folders

Digital Storage ManagerVirtual Ticket Developer systems can be used to move files and folders. Typically, they are moved to two different types of locations:

Online locations, such as archives and servers.

Media Shelf folders.

When moving files and folders to the Media Shelf, the system will ask you if you want to delete the source files/folders. If you delete the source files and folders and do not have a copy of them, there will be no way to retrieve the files and folders that have been moved to the Media Shelf.

Recommendation: Do not move files using the file system. A move operation conduction at the file system level will be interpreted by Digital Storage ManagerVirtual Ticket Developer as a delete operation followed by an add operation. In order to preserve the metadata associated with files and folders, always execute move operations within Digital Storage ManagerVirtual Ticket Developer.
