Moving / Copying Digital Resources
Virtual Ticket Developer provides the ability to move and copy the physical files and folders referenced by digital resources. Moving digital resources will move the physical files to a user-specified location, while automatically updating the file path and location information in the system. This feature is commonly used to archive digital resources for near-line or off-line storage. Copying digital resources will store a copy of the physical files at a user-specified location.
1. Select the digital resource(s) you want to move or copy within Virtual Ticket Developer. Digital resources may be accessed through the File Board window, through a file collector field on a form in the Browser window, or through a search result.
2. Select Move... or Copy... from the Tools Menu ( ) to move or copy the digital resource(s) to a new destination directory. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to select the destination to which you want the digital resources moved or copied.
NOTE: Both the origin and destination locations must be mounted and accessible to the current workstation for this tool to function properly.
3. Locate the appropriate destination directory and click OK ( ) if browsing the database or Open (
) if browsing the file system. If possible, Virtual Ticket Developer will move or copy the specified digital resource(s) to the directory you have selected.
NOTE: After digital resources are moved to the destination directory, the path information in the Virtual Ticket Developer database is updated accordingly. When digital resources are copied, the path information in the Virtual Ticket Developer database is not updated (i.e. the path points to the original files/folders, not the newly-created copies).
In some cases, the destination directory you have selected may not be large enough to physically store the selected digital resource(s). In this case, a Multiple Destinations window will appear, allowing you to select which files you want to include in the move/copy to your selected destination location. The Multiple Destinations window also allows you to specify alternate destinations for the files. The Multiple Destinations window will remain open until either all of the original files have been moved, or you click Cancel ( ).
4. If the selected digital resource(s) are too large for the destination location, a warning dialog box will appear. Click OK ( ) to continue the move/copy process and proceed to the Multiple Destinations window.
5. In the Multiple Destinations window, click the Included check box for each digital resource you want to move/copy to the destination and click Move () or Copy (). This will instruct Virtual Ticket Developer to move or copy the selected digital resources to the destination location. If there are files that did not fit on the destination or files that were left unchecked, the Multiple Destinations window will reappear, allowing you to select a different destination location.
6. Click BROWSE to specify another destination location. A dialog box will appear, asking you to select the destination to where you want to move or copy the remaining digital resources.
7. Locate the destination and click SELECT. The system will check the destination for available space and update the size available information in the Multiple Destinations window.
8. Repeat Steps 5-7 until all the original digital resources have been moved or copied to new destination locations. When complete, the Multiple Destinations window will close automatically, returning you to the original area of Virtual Ticket Developer. Optionally, you may click Cancel at any time to cancel the move process.
At this point, the original digital resources have been physically moved or copied from their previous location to the new location specified and the file path information has been updated in the database to reflect these changes.
