Notifications can be generated by Virtual Ticket Developer through the Browser window anytime information in the Virtual Ticket Developer system is added, deleted, or modified. If a notification routine has been defined by the system administrator, Virtual Ticket Developer will automatically send the notification or prompt you to specify to the recipient(s) of the notification.
Generating a notification in the Browser
1 If the Browser window is not open (it appears by default whenever Virtual Ticket Developer is started), select New Browser from the File menu to open a new Browser window or press Command-N (Mac)/Ctrl-N (PC).
2. Perform one of the following actions: add a new folder record, attach a new document, edit a folder record, edit an attached document, or delete a folder record or document. For details on these procedures, please refer to the instructions provided above.
3. Click the appropriate action button (Add, Update, or Delete). If an automatic notification routine has been defined for the folder/document, a notification will be transmitted to the appropriate user(s) and/or group(s). If a prompt user notification routine has been defined for the folder/document, a Send Notification dialog box will appear, allowing you to specify the recipient(s) of the notification.
NOTE: To force Virtual Ticket Developer to generate a notification, press Alt while clicking Add, Update, or Delete. A Send Notification dialog box will appear, allowing you to specify the event name and recipients for the notification. This “forced” notification overrides the notification routine(s), if any, set up by the system administrator.
4. If you are generating a “forced” notification, type the name of the event in the Event Name field. The event name can include up to 32 alphanumeric characters.
5. Check the Notify checkbox for each user and/or group that you would like to notify about the action completed in Step 3.
6. Type a message that you would like to include with the notification in the Message field and click Notify ( ). This message will be sent to each user and/or group specified in Step 4 and will appear in each user’s Notification Box window. If you do not wish to send the notification, click Cancel (
).
At this point, a new notification has been generated and sent to the selected recipient(s).
