Changing Location Information for Volumes

The location information for volumes can be easily changed with the Virtual Ticket Developer client. For removable storage volumes, this may be a frequent occurrence and you should consider marking the volume as Removable. For most users, however, changing volume location information is likely to be an infrequent occurrence and the result of changes to the storage configuration in your environment.

Changing volume location information and/or marking a volume as Removable is performed by opening the Properties window for a volume. When Properties are displayed for volumes, a Change button is displayed in the window.

Change

Opens the Change Volume Location window for marking a volume as removable or for changing its server location.

Location

Displays the server name or IP address on which Virtual Ticket Developer thinks the volume resides.

Removable

When selected, this marks the volume as removable, which will allow Virtual Ticket Developer to automatically identify any local share with the same name as the correct location and current instance of the removable volume.

Located on Server

When selected, this is used in conjunction with the Server Name field to identify the server on which the volume is located.

Server Name

Type the server name or IP address for the volume in this field. Conversely, if you wish to browse to the file server in Macintosh Finder, the location selection in Finder will automatically appear in this field.

Browse in Finder

Opens a Finder window for you to browse and select the server on which the volume is located.

Cancel

Closes the Change Volume Location window without making a selection.

OK

Closes the Change Volume Location window, implementing the selections.

Procedures

To change the location information for a volume:

  1. Open the Properties window for a volume.
  2. Click Change. This will open the Change Volume Location window.
  3. Select the Located on server radio button.
  4. Type the server name or IP address in the Server Name field or browse to location by clicking the Browse in Finder button.
  5. Click OK when done. The Change Volume Location window will close and the Properties window will be updated with the newly selected location information.

To mark a volume as removable:

  1. Open the Properties window for a volume.
  2. Click Change. This will open the Change Volume Location window.
  3. Select the Removable radio button. Click OK when done. The Change Volume Location window will close and when Virtual Ticket Developer tries to locate a file, it will scan all locally mounted shares for a volume with the same name.
