Setting Service Parameters for the MetaData Service
The first step in the configuration of the MetaData Service is setting service parameters using the MetaData Service Properties dialog window. General service parameters fall into the following categories:
Setting MetaData Service parameters
- Select Start:Program Files:MetaCommunications:Management Console from the Task Bar. This will open the MetaCommunications console.
Note: If a destination folder other than the default folder was specified during installation, double click the Management Console.msc icon in the destination folder selected to open the MetaCommunications console.
- Click “MetaCommunications Services”, then double click the “<Your_Server_Name>.MetaData Service” icon or right click the icon and select Properties. This will open the MetaData Service Properties window.
- Under the “General” folder tab, specify the general parameters you would like the service to use. General MetaData Service parameters fall into the following categories:
Processor Control - This category of parameters includes the service priority and the list of CPUs that the service is allowed to use.
Memory Usage - This category of parameters specifies whether the amount of memory used by the service should be monitored, and, if so, the amount of memory to which the service is limited.
- Under the “Recovery” folder tab, specify the recovery parameters you would like the service to use. MetaData Service recovery parameters fall into the following categories:
Access failure - This category of parameters includes the interval between attempts to reconnect to unavailable databases and file servers, and the maximum number of and interval between attempts to access files.
Service failure - This category of parameters allows you to specify whether a dump file should be written in case of service failure, the information to be included in the dump file, and whether the previous dump file can be overwritten.
- Under the “Security” folder tab, specify the user name and password of the default file access account for the service. This account will be used to access folders for which the ‘Use default account’ access option is selected.
Note: If the user name and password fields are left blank, the local system account will be used. The local system account, however, has an extremely low priority when operating over a network. If the volumes the MetaData Service will be updating are located on the machine on which the service is installed, this will not affect the performance of the MetaData Service. If the volumes are located on remote computers, specifying a default file access account with greater network privileges is recommended.
Enter the maximum number of files that may be processed simultaneously in the “Thumbnailing process” area.
Indicate whether you would like to use QuickTime when thumbnailing PICT files, and, if so, which transparent color should be used.
Note: To use Apple QuickTime for thumbnailing PICT files, you must have QuickTime installed on the local Windows Server computer. If QuickTime is not installed, the QuickTime group will not be active in the Thumbnailing tab.
- Click OK. This will save the service parameters you have chosen and close the MetaData Service Properties window.
