Management Console Overview

Management Console Overview

The MetaCommunications Management Console (MetaConsole) is implemented as a Microsoft Management Console Snap-in. The main function of the console is to allow you to manage and monitor your databases as well as the “helper” services operating on the databases. The intended users of the Management Console are administrators and integrators of the MetaCommunations system. The usefulness of the Management Console will depend on the extent of your database monitoring needs (for example, if your organization relies heavily on the InterSync technology, the Management Console will become an important part of your Virtual Ticket or Digital Storage Manager system).

Note: The InterSync component is only available for Digital Storage Manager (DSM) systems and Virtual Ticket with Digital Storage Manager systems. If you do not use either of these applications, InterSync and the related File System Service and MetaData Service Services and Snap-ins will be unavailable to you.

The Management Console works using an extensible structure based on Snap-ins and Plug-ins written in Dynamic HTML and JavaScript. The standard Snap-ins (installed with the console) are the Database Monitoring and Maintenance (DMAM) Snap-in, the File System Service (FSS) Snap-in, and the MetaData Service Snap-in. These Snap-ins monitor a particular part of database and service functionality for the databases they are attached to. Thus, in order to fully understand the capabilities of the MetaCommunications Management Console, it is necessary to understand the functionality of each of its standard Snap-ins and that of the “helper” services they manage.
