Welcome to the InterSync User Guide! This guide is designed to provide you with the instructions and knowledge for using the services that make up the InterSync technology. These services monitor the digital assets (files and folders) stored on your Windows and AppleShare file servers and allow you to automate the way changes to these digital assets are reflected in your Digital Storage Manager or Virtual Ticket with the DSM Extension system.
note: The abovementioned systems maintain a digital resource record corresponding to each digital asset that has been added to the system; this digital resource record references the physical location of the digital asset and includes a thumbnail, an extended preview, and other file information for the digital asset.
InterSync’s synchronization and cataloging capabilities are important components of your digital asset management (“DAM”) system:
In-Process DAM - InterSync is a full-fledged in-process DAM solution. InterSync manages the digital assets used during the production process - it ensures that the digital resource records in the system are up-to-date and delivers current thumbnails, extended previews, and other file metadata to the fingertips of the production staff.
Near-line/Off-line DAM - InterSync ensures that the database is synchronized with the file system; near-line/off-line DAM (tracking archived digital assets) thus does not require updating the database, and the preparation needed before archiving is drastically reduced.
InterSync can be used alongside other methods for cataloging digital resources - including dragging-and-dropping digital resources onto the File Board or file collector fields in forms. In order to fully understand InterSync’s digital resource monitoring, synchronization, and cataloging capabilities, it is important to first review the services that make up the InterSync technology.
