Installing InterSync

Installing InterSync

To install InterSync on a Windows 2003 computer, install the InterSync component with the Server Installer.

InterSync may already have been installed on the Application Server. You may, however, install InterSync on additional Windows 2003 Server computers for increased performance.

Installing InterSync 3.0 on a Windows 2003 Server computer

1. Open the ServerInstaller.exe file on the Windows 2003 Server computer on which you wish to install an instance of InterSync. This will launch the Server Installation application and open the Welcome window.

2. Read the End User License Agreement (EULA).

3. Click I the “I accept the License Agreement” radio button if you accept the EULA or click the “I do not accept the License Agreement” radio button if you do not accept the EULA.

4. If you accepted the EULA, click Next to continue. The Select Features window will open.

Note: Server components will not be installed if you do not accept the EULA.

5. Deselect all features except InterSync. Click Next to continue. The Ready to Install window will open.

6. The installation wizard will recommend that you install the Server Configurator and Management Console with this instance of InterSync. It is recommended that you do so for convenience, as these features will allow you to configure the installed instance of InterSync. Click Next to continue. The application will install the InterSync files to the server and open the Finish window when completed.

7. Click Next to continue. The application will install the InterSync files to the server and open the MetaCommunications Server Configurator when finished.

8. Click Next. The Company Information Window will open.

9. Click Next. The Server Licenses window will open.

10. Click Next. The Client Licenses window will open.

11. Click Next. The Select Microsoft SQL Server window will open.

12. The Select Microsoft SQL Server window allows you to select a currently installed instance of SQL Server installed on the remote computer. Type the address of the SQL Server instance you want to use and type the ‘sa’ password in the password field. Click Next when finished. The Configure MS SQL window will open.

13. Click Next. The Manage Databases window will appear, displaying a list of MetaCommunications databases installed at the selected location.

14. Click Next. The InterSync configuration window will appear.

15. Select the databases for which you want to configure InterSync. InterSync can only be configured for Virtual Ticket databases using the DSM Extension or for Digital Storage Manager only databases.

16. Click Configure. The InterSync Configuration: Manage Production Folders window will open.

17. Click Add. This will open the Production Folder Properties window.

18. Type the full address of the folder location.

If you specify a Production Folder by IP Address, you will be asked whether you want to change the IP address to the Host Name when saving. Whether you allow a Production Folder’s location to be displayed as an IP Address or as a Host Name has no affect on system performance, but some users find it easier to recognize and work with locations using the Host Name convention.

Remember, for best performance, remote Production folders hosted on Windows 2003 Server computers should NOT be added here. They can be monitored by remote instances of InterSync installed separately. Select an access protocol and type the port number (if required).

19. Select an account access method and type the user name and password (if required). If you have multiple folders, you may want to use the same user for all of them. In this case you may setup a default user with access to all folders and use this user for accessing. If the folder is local, select “Use service account”.

20. Select filter and scheduling options in the Filter and Schedule tabs.

21. Click OK. The Production Folder Properties window will close and the folder will be added to the Production Folders list in the Add Production Folders window.

22. Repeat this procedure until all desired folders have been added.

23. Click Next when finished. The InterSync Configuration: Manage Archive Folders window will open.

24. Continue adding Production Folders. Click Next when finished. The InterSync Configuration: Manage Archive Folders window will open.

25. Click Add. This will open the Archive Folder Properties window.

26. Type the full address of the folder location.

If you specify an Archive Folder by IP Address, you will be asked whether you want to change the IP address to the Host Name when saving. Whether you allow an Archive Folder’s location to be displayed as an IP Address or as a Host Name has no affect on system performance, but some users find it easier to recognize and work with locations using the Host Name convention.

Remember, for best performance, remote Archive folders hosted on Windows 2003 Server computers should NOT be added now. They can be monitored by remote instances of InterSync installed separately.

27. Select an account access protocol and port number (if required).

28. Select an access method and type the user name and password (if required). If you have multiple folders, you may want to use the same user for all of them. In this case you may setup a default user with access to all folders and use this user for accessing. If the folder is local, select “Use service account”.

29. Use the Filters tab to set scanning exclusion options.

30. Click OK. The Archive Folder Properties window will close and the folder will be added to the Archive Folders list of the Add Archive Folders window.

31. Repeat this procedure until all desired folders have been added.

Note: Archive Folders can be added at any time through the MetaConsole File System Service Snap-In. Please see the MetaConsole Guide for details.

Note: Unlike Production Folders, Archive Folders are scanned only when they are added to the system. Scanning can be re-initiated for Archive Folders at any time through the File System Service snap-in of the MetaCommunications Management Console (MMC).

Note: Classification Roles need to be defined once for an installation. If you did not define Classification Roles as part of the initial Server Component Installation, you will need to do it now.

32. Click Next. The finish window will open. Click Finish to close the Server Installer application.

33. Repeat these steps for each Windows 2003 Server computer that is acting as a production or archive server in your environment.

At this point, the InterSync features you selected have been installed on your computer, and you may complete the setup of InterSync by configuring the features you have installed. For instructions on configuring the File System Service, please refer to the “Configuring the InterSync File System Service” chapter of this guide. For instructions on configuring the MetaData Service, please refer to the “Configuring the InterSync MetaData Service” chapter of this guide.
