Disabling MetaData Service Features
From time to time you may want to disable and enable metadata retrieval and classification for individual folders or for all folders attached to the database. The following options are available to you:
Excluding a database from MetaData Service processing. When a database has been excluded from MetaData Service processing, full size previews, thumbnails, text extraction, etc... for files located in folders attached to the database will no longer be updated in the database. the See “Disabling MetaData Service processing for a database” for step-by-step instructions.
Disabling classification for a Database. When classification has been disabled for a database, classification and association will no longer be performed for folders that are attached to the database. See “Disabling Classification for a database” for step-by-step instructions.
Disabling classification and association for a folder. When classification is disabled for an attached folder, files and folders within the attached folder will no longer be classified or associated. See “Disabling classification for a folder” for step-by-step instructions.
Disabling MetaData retrieval for a Folder. When MetaData retrieval has been disabled for a folder, full size previews, thumbnails, text extraction, etc... for files and folders located within the attached folder will no longer be updated in the database. See “Disabling MetaData retrieval for a folder” for step-by-step instructions.
Disabling MetaData Service processing for a database
1. Right click a database in the database list in the MetaData Service Snap-in and select Properties in the Context menu. The Database Properties window will appear.
2. Enable the excluded checkbox in the Connection tab.
3. Click OK. The database Properties window will close and the database icon will change from included ( ) to excluded (
) to stopped, indicating that the MetaData Service will not update the database with either metadata (full size previews, thumbnails, extracted text, etc...) or classify and associate digital resources.
Tip: To quickly exclude and include databases, right click a database and select Exclude or Include in the context menu.

4. Right click a database in the database list in the MetaData Service Snap-in and select Properties. The Database Properties window will appear.
6. Uncheck the “Enable Digital Resources Classification” checkbox and click OK. The database Properties window will close and classification and association will not be performed for digital resources in all folders that have been attached to the database.

7. Browse to and right-click a folder in the navigation pane for which you would like to stop classification and association activities. A Context Menu will appear.
8. Select Properties in the context menu. The Properties window will appear for the selected folder.
9. Uncheck the “Enable classification of Digital Resources” checkbox.
10. Click OK. The Folder Properties window will close and classification and association activities will not be performed for the Folder.
Disabling MetaData retrieval for a folder
Note: MetaData retrieval can only be disabled (and subsequently re-enabled) for manually configured Folders. See “Setting Folder Configuration Options for an Attached Database” for more information. Folders that are not manually configured, MetaData retrieval is always enabled and cannot be disabled.
11. Browse to and right-click a folder in the navigation pane for which you would like to stop classification and association activities. A Context Menu will appear.
12. Select Properties in the context menu. The Properties window will appear for the selected folder.
13. Uncheck the “Enable MetaData retrieval” checkbox.
14. Click OK. The Folder Properties window will close and MetaData for files and folders located within the selected folder will not be retrieved to the database.
