From time to time you may want to upgrade your current database to a newer version released by MetaCommunications. You can use the Server Configurator released with the update to upgrade existing databases by following the procedure described below.
Note: Before creating additional databases, you will need to stop both InterSync and the Application Server.
1. On the Windows 2003 Server computer that hosts the Server Components, open the Server Configuration Tool. The Server Configuration Tool is available in the Start-> Programs-> MetaCommunications window on the Windows Server computer on which the MetaCommunications Server components have been installed. When opened, the The Server Configurator Welcome window will appear.
2. Click Next in the Server Configurator until the Select Microsoft SQL Server window appears.
3. Select or type the SQL Server instance you want to use and type the ‘sa’ password in the password field.
4. Click Next until the Manage Databases window appears.
5. Select the database you want to upgrade and click Upgrade. The Update Database: Confirm Changes window will appear.
6. Read the information contained in the Update Database: Confirm Changes window to verify the changes that it will apply.
Warning: Always make a complete backup of your existing database before applying any database update. If a database update fails for any reason, or there are unexpected consequences to the update related to customization performed at and unique to your location, this backup will allow you to restore your database to its current state.
7. Make a complete backup of your current database.
8. Enable the database backup confirmation checkbox.
9. Click Next to update the database. The Database Update Progress window will appear.
10. Click Next when the database update completes. The Upgrade Database Completion window will appear.
11. Review the information in the window. Many database updates change the database in such a way as to make any existing incremental backups of the database invalid for restoring the database after the upgrade has been applied.
Warning: Make a complete backup of your upgraded database before continuing. Many database upgrades will change the database in such a way as to make it impossible to restore from incremental backups made prior to the upgrade. After you have made a complete backup of the upgraded database, incremental backups that are made afterwards will be able to be used for restoration purposes (if needed).
12. Make a complete backup of your database.
13. Enable the backup confirmation checkbox and click Next. The Manage Databases window will reappear, illustrating the new version number of your upgraded database.
14. Click Next until the Server Configuration Finish window appears.
15. Click Finish. The Server Configurator will close. Click Finish.
