Modify Supported Applications for Existing Databases

Modify Supported Applications for Existing Databases

You can use the Server Configurator to modify supported applications for existing databases by following the procedure described below.

Note: Before modifying existing databases, you will need to stop both InterSync and the Application Server.

Modifying supported applications for existing databases

1. On the Windows 2003 Server computer that hosts the Server Components, open the Server Configuration Tool. The Server Configuration Tool is available in the Start-> Programs-> MetaCommunications window on the Windows Server computer on which the MetaCommunications Server components have been installed. When opened, the The Server Configurator Welcome window will appear.

2. Click Next in the Server Configurator until the Select Microsoft SQL Server window appears.

3. Select or type the SQL Server instance you want to use and type the ‘sa’ password in the password field.
4. Click Next until the Manage Databases window appears.

5. Select the database you want to modify and click Modify. The Supported Applications window will open.

6. Enable only the applications that you intend and are licensed to use. Disable any applications you do not wish to use. Enabling applications other than those which you are licensed to use will increase the database size, but not offer you access to the corresponding application. If you decide to purchase an additional application in the future, you can modify an existing database to support your new application(s).

Warning: Removing applications that were previously in use will result in the permanent loss of data related to those applications.

7. Click Next when finished selecting the application profile of the database. The Modify Database: Confirm Changes window will appear.

8. Read the information contained in the Modify Database: Confirm Changes window to verify the changes that it will apply.

Warning: Always make a complete backup of your existing database before modifying database families. If a database modification fails for any reason, or there are unexpected consequences to the modification related to customization performed at and unique to your location, this backup will allow you to restore your database to its current state.

9. Make a complete backup of your current database.
10. Enable the database backup confirmation checkbox.
11. Click Next to modify the database. The Database Modification Progress window will appear.

12. Click Next when the database modification completes. The Modify Database Completion window will appear.

13. Review the information in the window. Many database modifications change the database in such a way as to make any existing incremental backups of the database invalid for restoring the database after the modification has been applied.

Warning: Make a complete backup of your modified database before continuing. Many database modifications will change the database in such a way as to make it impossible to restore from incremental backups made prior to the modification. After you have made a complete backup of the modified database, incremental backups that are made afterwards will be able to be used for restoration purposes (if needed).

14. Make a complete backup of your database.
15. Enable the backup confirmation checkbox and click Next. The Manage Databases window will reappear, illustrating the new applications for your modified database.

16. Click Next until the Server Configuration Finish window appears.

17. Click Finish. The Server Configurator will close. Click Finish.
