The previous section mentioned that the Application Server can be started and stopped as a Windows 2003 service. In most environments, this is the preferred method for starting/stopping the Application Server program. You can also start and stop it manually through the Application Server shell program (accessible through the Start menu of the Windows Server operating system).
Starting/Stopping the Application Server as a Service
1. Select Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Services from the Task Bar. This will open a Microsoft Management Console listing the services running on your computer.
2. Right-click “MetaCommunications Application Server” in the list of services, and select Start/Stop from the popup menu to start/stop the Application Server program.
Starting/Stopping the Application Server with the Shell Program
1. Select Start > Programs > MetaCommunications > Application Server from the Task Bar. This will launch the Application Server shell program.
2. Select Start/Stop from the Server menu to start/stop the Application Server program.
At this point, the Application Server has been started and is running on your Windows Server computer, making it available to the client applications, or has been stopped, making it unavailable to all clients.
![]() | Note: Simply closing the Application Server Shell program DOES NOT stop the Application Server. The Application Server must be stopped either from within the Application Server Shell or as a Windows Service. |
