Configuring the File System Service to Manage Another Computer

Configuring the File System Service to Manage Another Computer

By default, the File System Service is set up to manage the computer on which the service is installed (the local computer). However, the service may also be used to manage any other computer on your network. To do so, you must simply instruct the File System Service to connect to the computer you would like the service to manage.

Connecting the File System Service to another computer

  1. Expand “MetaCommunications Services” in the tree portion of the MetaCommunications console, right-click the <Server_Name>.File System Service sub-tree, and select Connect from the popup menu. This will bring up the Connect To Computer dialog window, allowing you to specify the computer that the File System Service will manage.

  1. Click the “Another computer” radio button and type the name of the computer you would like the File System Service to manage. You may also click to browse for the computer.
  2. Click OK. This will change the computer the File System Service is configured to manage to the one you specified and close the Connect To Computer window. The name of the File System Service sub-tree of MetaCommunications Services will be displayed as “<New_Computer>.File System Service” in the MetaCommunications Management Console.

After you have specified the computer to manage, the File System Service will automatically connect to the MetaCommunications Application Server running on that computer and retrieve the service configuration for the databases to which that Application Server is connected. It will also retrieve the service parameters from the computer’s registry (if the File System Service is not installed on the computer, the default service parameters will be used).
