Post-Installation

Once you've installed Approval Manager, you'll want to skim through the following questions and make sure you know the answers to any that apply to you.

Can Others Access Approval Manager?
Once you've completed installation, you'll want to check and see if other computers on your LAN can see it/access it. If they cannot, check the firewall settings on the computer on which Approval Manager is installed; it may be that the computer's firewall is preventing access to Approval Manager. If you expect users to be able to connect to Approval Manager over the internet, check your corporate firewall settings as well. By default, Approval Manager and Spark! are configured to use port 80. These can be changed in IIS. The port used by Dalim DiALOGUE is specified in that product's configuration.

Will you be using a proofer other than Spark!?
Spark! is configured as the default proofer for Approval Manager. If you want to use other proofers for specific filetypes, or you want to set a different default proofer entirely, you can change this in the Proofer File Type Associations page.

Will you be proofing Balsamiq Mockups files?
If you will be proofing Balsamiq Mockups files, you'll want to configure the system so that this filetype can be proofed in Spark!

Do you know how to modify your configuration?
Once you've installed Approval Manager, you can modify it's configuration through its own configuration pages or through the Configurator app.

Do you want to limit the amount of RAM used by SQL Server?
The default behavior of MS SQL Server is to use all available RAM for its buffer pool. While it is designed to release memory to other applications as needed, some MS SQL Server users have reported that it does not always do so. This can result in extreme slowness in other applications hosted on the same SQL Server.

If you want to change the maximum amount of memory SQL Server is allowed to use, you can use the SQL Server Management Studio (Memory Settings under Server Properties) or you can use the sp_configure stored procedure. Microsoft TechNet provides additional information and instructions for setting max server memory for SQL Server 2008 R2 and for MS SQL Server 2005.

Do you want to customize the appearance?
Customize the appearance of the Approval Manager web interface and email notifications to reflect your own corporate identity.

This feature is not available in Approval Manager Express Edition.

Do you have it covered under a backup plan?
In order to recover from a disaster, make sure your MS SQL Server database and your Approval Manager \config and \data_storage directories are covered under your backup plan.

Approval Manager will store files in the following locations, depending on your operating system:

Product Operating System Parent Directory
