The File Collector Field Tool allows you to place a file collector box corresponding to a file collection field in the database. Files can be dragged-and-dropped from the file system into the File Collector to associate them with the record displayed in the form. When a File Collector field is placed, specify the file collection field to which it refers and the viewing options for the file collector. File Collector fields may be included on a form whenever you want to associate files and folders with the underlying record type.
For example, a File Collector field may be included on a form for a scanning document type so that a scanner operator could drag-and-drop the appropriate scans (images) directly onto the scanning document. A file collector field may also be included on a job form (at the Jobs folder type level), allowing you to instantly view all the digital assets that are used for the job, along with other information specific to the job (instructions, specifications, etc.).
Procedures
Creating a file collector on a form
Select the File Collector Field Tool from the Tools Toolbar.
Move the pointer to the appropriate position, then click and drag to draw a file collector on the form.
Select the newly created popup on the form. You can specify the database field to associate with the file collector and specify other field and control options in the Control Properties branch of the Properties panel.
Click the Field expander button and select the appropriate database field. The database fields available will depend on the record type on which the form is based.
Specify the appropriate options for the file collector. The following options may be specified:
Allow Editing—indicates whether users are allowed to edit the information displayed in this field.
Required—indicates whether the user is required to enter information in this field before the record displayed in the form can be saved.
Visibility*—*indicates whether the file collector will be always shown, always hidden, shown in print (only when the form is printed), or shown in display (only when the form is viewed in Virtual Ticket).
Select Save Form from the Form menu to save the changes you have made to the form.
At this point, a new file collector field has been added to the form. You can now continue drawing file collectors or move on to the next type of form object you want to place on a form. For details on moving, resizing, copying, or pasting file collectors, please refer to the "Working with Form Objects: Supported Actions" section.
